Resist and Unsubscribe

A Dangerous Culture

The United States has a culture of aggression not...

Professor Scott Galloway has a new project. It’s called Resist and Unsubscribe. The gist behind it is that the Trump administration only really reverses course on bad/harmful policies when large corporations feel a financial pain so cause them more pain to reverse heinous policies. e.g. UPS has a contract with ICE, unsubscribe from UPS services either by not using them at (for bigger businesses, that literally means cancelling subscriptions with UPS).

The only issue I have is that I haven’t been able to find the link between a specific company’s market cap and policy direction in the White House. I mean the stock market has lost over 10% of it’s entire value in the last 3 months and the Trump admin decided to start a war with Iran. A war with no clear objective, and now Trump is talking of ending it without reopening the Strait of Hormuz. So the US invented a race to stroke one ego, just shot itself in the foot at the starting line, and then took down the “finish” banner before it ever hobbled across the finish line. How has market cap played a roll in this?

OpenAI and Anthropic are still private companies, so they don’t technically even have a market cap, and in my estimation that makes any valuation math more suspect than the apparently already arbitrary stuff used for public companies.

but I’m getting off track…

resist and unsubscribe is a website that provides you with links to unsubscribe from the largest companies, like OpenAI (ChatGPT), Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, etc. It does some wild assumptions in math and makes a claim of efficacy based upon it.

Look, is it a good idea to ditch these companies because they’re enabling ICE and other gross, horrible shit by the current administration? Yes. Is it a misleading way to promote the effort? In my opinion, also yes. Does that matter? Well, if you’re not a fan of propaganda from the other side, why would lap up propaganda from the side that confirms your biases? I’m not saying don’t do this stuff. In fact, I’m begging you to unsubscribe from as many of these services as you can.

This is essentially the leastest-effort way to protest what these corporations help make happen in some way (apparently), and it also saves you some money…which will go right into your gas tank or to your landlord. So if you couldn’t be bothered to, were too scared to, or were working and could go out and protest the fascist takeover of our government (and culture in some ways), this is a much easier way to do something other than posting memes and ranting on social media.

The important part here is that you take an action…a real action; one that has consequences for the companies, but also for you. That’s the price you have to accept to reclaim the country. It’s a call to civic duty using the thing the power structure pays attention to the most…money.

P.S. If someone could tell me the secret to getting 5% conversion rates on website traffic in the comments, that’d be great, because whether it’s Google, Facebook, or eCommerce traffic, I’ve never seen a 5% conversion, and my bank account could certainly use it 😆

P.P.S. Go buy some of my artwork and get me to a 5% conversion rate! Coastal artwork. Silly/Fun artwork.
