This YouTube viewer is grateful latest update is so bad

Hext

Hext is that cursed-looking script that AI generates in images. That's what I'm calling it. Pass it along.

Alphabet hasn’t rolled out this update to all accounts yet, but in my opinion it’s the best update they’ve ever made!

Screen shot of YouTube blank user homepage because viewing history is off.

I’ve been a sucker for that page full of “related” videos for years. That algorithm prayed on my conditioned need for dopamine, hell, it was designed–along with those of every other social media platform–to addict me to it!

Thanks to this update, I’m greeted with a blank page, and from here, I can go directly to my subscribed channels without distraction or temptation.

Look, I know there were other ways to avoid, but this shock of blankness is what my brain really needed to cut down the time I even bother going to this website. Before, I’d check in at least twice a day to see if a new video had been posted, and still watch other ones recommended to me. Now, I don’t even visit every day, and am happily falling behind in my video watching.

It definitely sucks as a “content creator” on YouTube to read that a subscriber is happy to lose enough interest in your content that they can see themselves unsubscribing at some point in the future and even abandoning the platform, but I’m here to tell you that Alphabet/Googles decision to only put up extra videos on the “trending” and other tabs, but not on the home screen if my history is turned of is the culprit, and not anything you’re doing.

Creators are just about entirely powerless to the whims of the platforms. I’ll miss you guys…for a little while…probably.

Why would you leave the platform instead of staying and supporting the creators? Because I choose to. It has nothing to do with creators. At all. They will be affected if there are enough people feeling/doing the same things as me, but I’m not advocating any action, I’m just explaining my foreseen actions. TV shows get canceled all the time, YouTube is TV. I haven’t watched traditional television in years, not even for “news.” YouTube has as much value to me, it appears.
