A More Effective Review of 2023

I've got an updated process for my annual review. Let's go deep!

You can’t be “on” all the time. I don’t mean the being fake and it’s catching up to you kind of “on”; you shouldn’t act like that anyways. What I’m talking about is that in your authentic expression of yourself, you can’t always be happy, you can’t always be selfless, you can’t always be friendly, you can’t always be engaging, and you can’t always be a pleasure to hang around.

Today was one of those days where I just couldn’t quite connect with most of the people visiting my tent. I felt off; the whole thing felt off. This is the time of year when the markets slow down because it’s between the summer tourist and holiday seasons. Kids have gone back to school or soon will so family vacations are done. Couples without kids aren’t as large a buying force or tourist group in this area, which kind of boggles my mind. So the past couple of markets have been slow and not very profitable at all.

This, coupled with a mild case of burn out plus a creativity block with the canvas currently on the easel has messed up my whole rhythm. I definitely feel out of sorts. I know it will pass, and I just have to kind of trudge through the next few days until it all gets back in sync, but it isn’t a fun experience when it happens.

But it does happen, and there will always be another round of it in the future. I’ve given myself permission to be a little unhappy with how this week has turned out, and a little down about it. I’m allowed that and so are you. Once it’s over, however, let it be what it was and get back to work; that’s what I plan to do.

–See you down the road.
