A More Effective Review of 2023

I've got an updated process for my annual review. Let's go deep!

“Do or do not, there is no try” — Yoda, Return of the Jedi.

“I’m here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. I’m all outta bubble gum” — Nada (Roddy Piper), They Live.

Just these two quotes pack a huge punch of productivity for me! Here are the lessons I get out of them.

  1. You have to show up and do the thing. Art isn’t something you try. The attempt is already the thing, for better or worse. Once you start, you’re creating something, not trying to create something. Don’t complicate things by delving deeper into it than that. I go to my creative space (my home studio) on a regular schedule, I don’t wait for inspiration (who has the fucking time or luxury for that and still earn a living at it?!)
  2. Cut out the distractions. If you’re here to create something, then fucking go create it!

Have Goals. Make Plans. Do the Fucking Thing!

  1. And don’t get so caught up in planning you forget doing! That’s where I trip up at any rate. Thank you for the kick up the backside 🙂

  2. Thank you! My two go-to quotes for things like this are, “Done is better than perfect, because perfect doesn’t grow.” And “All momma ducks know that for their chicks to line up they have to get up and go!”
